Antique Wax Seal Wheel with 8 Seals

$600.00
Product Description:
A great collectible 19th century antique wax seal wheel featuring a total of eight seals (six seals on the wheel and two at the center). The arms of the seal are highly decorative with beautiful lyre harps and scroll work designs.

This wheel seal includes the following motifs:

  • "Fare" with a picture of a well - 'Farewell'
  • "God gives us" with a picture of a cornucopia - 'God gives us plenty'. There are two separate seals with this same motif with subtle differences.
  • "Silent" with a picture of a bee - 'Be Silent'
  • "Where I live, I'll crow" with a picture of a rooster (representing strength and perseverance). There are two separate seals with this motif with subtle differences.
  • The two center seals include a male profile and a wafer/crosshatch.

The seal is constructed entirely of metal. Condition is very good with wear consistent with age. The center core is secure yet moves slightly making it easier for pressing. All of the seals are in excellent condition and provide very nice imprints. There is one arm of the seal where the metal is split although it is still secure and does not affect the use and pressing of seals. Refer to last photo. Despite this, it is very nice solid piece. This makes a wonderful addition to a collection.

Additional Information:

  • Original hand marbled designs: If you are purchasing multiples of one sheet please note that they will be similar but not identical. Due to the hand marbled process, no two are exactly the same.
  • Our maker's mark logo is stamped on the reverse side of each full and half size sheet identifying it as an authentic piece hand marbled in our studio. There may also be pencil or pen marks on the reverse side identifying which side we should marble. After being marbled, sheets are typically numbered on the back in pencil noting the paper size and style number. This information is not visible from the front of the paper. These characteristics are indicative of an authentic original piece of hand marbled paper. We feel that these add to the artisan quality of the product and the unique charm of the handmade process.
  • Due to the wet nature of the marbling process there may be traces of paint on the reverse side. This characteristic is also indicative of an authentic original piece of hand marbled paper that adds to the artisan quality and the unique charm of the handmade process.
